As a property specialist, Newell directed a statewide development plan for SBA Towers' wireless telecommunication expansion. In 2002, Newell joined KeyBank National Association where he became Vice-President of Corporate Real Estate and was named Most Valuable Team Player of 2003.  

In 2004, Newell joined Lambrecht Zweifel REIT as portfolio manager with holdings such  The KeyBank Building in Cooperstown, NY. 

At Sotheby's International Realty, Newell specializes in commercial properties and equestrian estates. 

Shane has published The Essential Guide to Stevens Decoys and serves as a guest speaker at various central New York museum societies and clubs on the topic of antique duck decoys.
